Google Maps… offline! Yes, this is the best way to find the right street!
When I don’t have internet connection, I mean I have internet but I don’t have signal, I found this trick to avoid the problem!
I was messing around my apps and I discover that with google maps you can download the map that you need, and use it offline. This is a great thing, in particular when you’re traveling and you wanna save a lot of traffic data.
For me this is really a game changer because I’m traveling a lot and moving by car, obviously I don’t know the places… Thanks to the offline google maps, I solve a big problem for me: losing in the streets every time! 😀
Honestly I have to admit that sometimes wasn’t a problem lose a path at all… You know… It’s an easy way to discover some amazing places that probably I wouldn’t have seen. I hope this trick with google maps will be really useful for you as was (and it is) for me, to avoid extreme data charges from your provider.
I’ve made a video for you with a step-by-step guide to downloading the map. And if you like there’s also a guide with the pics here below. As you prefer.
Here below the steps to save an offline map with Google Maps on your mobile phone:
- On your phone or tablet, open Google Maps app.
- Sign in to Google Maps.
- At the bottom of the page, tap the name or address of the place in the white bar. I.e. in my case it’s Tenerife because I’m there right now.
- Click on the symbol with the 3 lines just near the name of the city.
- On the bar in the right of the app, click “offline maps”.
Note that you can select exactly the area that you want to use offline with Google maps: a city, a state, of a country. More area you download, more space will be taken on your device. So be careful, especially if you have an old smartphone with 16gb of storage or less (like my old iPhone 6 with 16gb… impossible to use).
After you’ve downloaded the area that you need, you can use the Google Maps app just like you normally would. If your connection is slow or there’s no signal, don’t worry anymore! Now Google Maps will use your offline areas to give you directions!
I hope that this simple trick helped you a lot with your travels, especially when you’re in trouble, comment here below if you liked this post or if you have a better method. I’m all ears! Enjoy.
