I’ve rented various times a car in Florida, the fist one with AtlasChoice and then with Thrifty Car Rental; each rental car like Avis, Hertz, Europcar… makes available the Sunpass service to drive in the toll roads in Florida.
What exactly Sunpass is? Sunpass is a service like Telepass in Italy; It’s a pre-paid system with a transponder installed on the windscreen of the car that automatically pays the rate when you pass through.
Sunpass works in Turnpike streets and where you find priority lane for save time specially in the rush hours.
The cost of the Turnpike streets depends by how long you stay in the street, if you want to know how much is the rate I suggest you to go on Sunpass site and check it out.
When you rent a car in Florida, every car rental will offer you the Sunpass service, it’s an additional service and you can add it when you pick up your car. After that I’ve rented two cars with Sunpass I think that this service isn’t necessary. If you are able to use a navigator on your smartphone, or you’re a person that pays attention for the signals, or you’re simply resourceful you don’t need this option, but you need only to be careful when you drive. Instead if you haven’t enough practice with the navigator apps, sometimes you’re inattentive and you don’t want to be stressed every time when you take a street, rent a Florida Sunpass.
Every car rental agency asks a different amount for this service but in general it’s like 50 euro per week. If you don’t want to buy the Sunpass service I recommend you to download a full map with all the Florida tool roads.
